How Etsy fees work
- The $0.20 listing fee is charged each time an item is listed or renewed (every 4 months). This calculator counts it once per sale.
- Transaction fee (6.5%) applies to the item price plus shipping the buyer pays. Sales tax is excluded from this fee.
- Payment processing (3% + $0.25 for US sellers) is applied to the total amount the buyer pays. International rates differ.
- Offsite Ads fee is only charged when a buyer clicks an Etsy ad off-platform (Google, Instagram, Facebook, etc.) and completes a purchase within 30 days.
- Sellers with $10,000+ in sales over the trailing 365 days are auto-enrolled in Offsite Ads at the reduced 12% rate. Under that threshold the program is optional at 15%.
- Offsite Ads fee is capped at $100 per order, regardless of sale size.
- Etsy Plus ($10/month) bundles extra listing credits, custom packaging, and store features. Not modeled per-sale here.
- International selling adds currency conversion and regional VAT charges in some markets — not factored into this calculator.
Frequently asked about Etsy fees
How do Etsy Offsite Ads fees work?
When Etsy promotes your listings on external sites (Google, Facebook, Instagram, Bing) and a buyer clicks one of those ads and makes a purchase within 30 days, you owe an Offsite Ads fee on that sale. The rate is 15% for sellers under $10,000 in trailing-365-day sales, and 12% for sellers over $10,000. The fee is capped at $100 per order regardless of sale size.
Can I opt out of Etsy Offsite Ads?
Only partially. If your shop has under $10,000 in trailing-365-day sales, you can fully opt out in your settings. Once you cross $10,000, opt-out is no longer available, but you do get a reduced rate (12% instead of 15%) and the $100 cap. Most growing sellers cannot avoid this once they hit the threshold.
What is the $0.20 Etsy listing fee for?
Etsy charges $0.20 to list an item, which keeps the listing active for 4 months or until it sells. If the item sells and you re-list, you pay another $0.20. Listing fees are charged regardless of whether the item sells, so high-turnover shops pay this fee many times. This calculator counts it once per sale as a reasonable approximation.
Is Etsy Plus worth the $10 per month?
Etsy Plus includes 15 listing credits per month ($3 value), a custom URL, store customization features, restock requests, and email marketing tools. For shops listing more than 50 items per month or wanting custom branding, it can pay for itself. For lower-volume shops, it's not worth it.
Why does Etsy's transaction fee include shipping?
Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee applies to the item price plus shipping the buyer pays. This is similar to eBay's model — the platform charges fees on the full sale total, not just the item. To minimize fees, some sellers price items higher and offer 'free' shipping, but this just shifts where the fees apply rather than reducing them.
