eBay is buying Depop. Here's what actually changes for sellers.
The $1.2 billion deal is scheduled to close on July 30, 2026. Almost every write-up covers the financials. This one covers your payout.
Published 2026-07-24 · We update this page when Depop's published fees or terms actually change — not when someone speculates that they will.
The short answer
Nothing changes about what you get paid. Depop's seller cost on the day the deal closes is identical to the day before it: no selling commission, 3.3% + $0.45 payment processing. An acquisition closing is a change of ownership, not a change of fee schedule — and neither company has announced one.
The things worth your attention are second-order and none of them land on day one: shipping rates, the buyer-side checkout fee, and ad products. They're broken down below.
Depop vs eBay: what you keep today
This is the gap the acquisition does not close. Depop charges sellers no commission; eBay charges 13.6% plus a per-order fee in most categories. On everything under a few hundred dollars, Depop pays out more — which is exactly why "should I leave Depop" has a straightforward answer right now.
| Sale price | Depop net | eBay net | You keep more on |
|---|---|---|---|
| $15.00 | $14.05 (−$0.95) | $12.56 (−$2.44) | Depop +$1.49 |
| $25.00 | $23.72 (−$1.28) | $21.20 (−$3.80) | Depop +$2.52 |
| $50.00 | $47.90 (−$2.10) | $42.80 (−$7.20) | Depop +$5.10 |
| $100.00 | $96.25 (−$3.75) | $86.00 (−$14.00) | Depop +$10.25 |
| $250.00 | $241.30 (−$8.70) | $215.60 (−$34.40) | Depop +$25.70 |
eBay calculated at the standard non-store rate for most categories, no shipping charged to the buyer, no promoted listings. Run your own numbers in the Depop and eBay calculators.

What people are claiming that isn't confirmed
A deal this size generates a lot of confident writing about things nobody has announced. Here's what to discount.
That Depop's 0% seller fee is going away.
Nothing has been announced. Depop's US seller cost is still 0% commission plus 3.3% + $0.45 payment processing, and eBay has not signalled a change. Treat any article stating a new Depop fee as speculation until Depop's own help centre changes.
That your Depop and eBay accounts will merge.
No account migration has been announced. The “retain its platform” language points the other way — separate apps, separate logins, separate listings.
That you'll be able to cross-list Depop ↔ eBay at close.
eBay named cross-listing as an opportunity, not a shipped feature or a dated commitment. Assume it does not exist on day one.
That Depop's buyer-side marketplace fee is being scrapped.
Unannounced. This is the one worth watching most closely — see the signals below — because it is the lever that most affects your conversion rate.
The four things worth watching
In rough order of how much they'd move your take-home.
- 1
Depop's seller-fee page
The single source of truth. A 0% → non-zero change here is the only thing that actually moves your payout. Nothing else in this deal does.
- 2
The buyer-side marketplace fee
Depop shifted its old 10% seller fee onto buyers at checkout. eBay does not charge buyers a marketplace fee. If eBay harmonises the two models, the cost lands back on sellers — that's the realistic downside scenario, not a headline seller-fee hike.
- 3
Shipping and label pricing
eBay's press release specifically named shipping solutions. eBay's negotiated label rates are better than Depop's for heavier items. This is the most plausible near-term upside, and it is worth more to most sellers than the fee question.
- 4
Promoted-listing mechanics
Depop Boost and eBay Promoted Listings work differently. Ad-product harmonisation is a common post-acquisition move and quietly changes your effective take rate without any headline fee change.
What to do about it
Nothing urgent, and that's a real answer rather than a hedge. The seller economics that made Depop worth using are intact, and eBay paid $1.2 billion for an audience that would leave if the platform got worse. The incentive runs toward keeping Depop cheap for sellers, not toward harvesting it.
If you already sell on both, the practical move is to keep your listings where they are and revisit in a quarter. If you've been considering Depop and were holding off on the acquisition news, the fee case is unchanged — it's still the cheapest way to sell fashion under $100 that we track.
The one genuinely useful preparation: know your own numbers. If Depop's fee page does change, the question "does this still beat my alternative" is answerable in about fifteen seconds if you already know your average sale price and what each platform takes at that price.
Frequently asked
Do Depop fees change when eBay takes over?
No — not on day one. Depop's US seller cost is unchanged: 0% selling commission plus 3.3% + $0.45 payment processing. No fee change has been announced by either company, and an acquisition closing does not by itself alter a platform's fee schedule. Watch Depop's own fee page for the real signal.
Should I move my listings off Depop before the deal closes?
There's no fee-based reason to. Depop remains the cheaper platform for sellers at every price point under $250 — the payout gap versus eBay is meaningful and unchanged by the acquisition. Moving listings costs you time and your Depop sales history for a change that has not been announced.
Will I be able to cross-list between Depop and eBay?
Not at close. eBay described cross-listing as an opportunity the combination creates, not a feature with a ship date. If and when it arrives it would be a genuine benefit — one listing reaching both buyer pools — but nothing has been committed to publicly.
Why is eBay buying Depop?
Buyer demographics. Depop has around 7 million active buyers and nearly 90% of them are under 34 — the exact cohort eBay struggles to reach. Depop did roughly $1 billion in gross merchandise sales in 2025 and grew nearly 60% year over year in the US. eBay is buying an audience, which is also why gutting the platform would defeat the purpose.
Is Depop still cheaper than eBay for sellers?
Yes. On a $50.00 sale Depop takes about $2.10 versus eBay's $7.20 — you keep roughly $5.10 more on Depop. That gap comes from Depop charging no selling commission, and it has not changed.
